Maureen Steger is about pipe performance and education. In her words, “The flute and its ancestral family members have been with me most of my life.” From the Tonette, to Concert Flute and Piccolo, to Recorders, to Irish Flutes, and to Tin Whistles, Ms. Steger has had many “pipes” in her life and has a love of the music they produce. She presently performs on piccolo and flute in the North Port Symphony Orchestra and the North Port Concert Band. However, Irish music…part of her own ancestry…has been a special area of learning and performance with Celtic Stew, a rousing Irish Band from Ft. Myers, Florida. She also has performed with Murphy’s Law Irish Band, MoonCoin, Trinity and A Bit of Malarkey in the Englewood, Punta Gorda and Sarasota area. Other venues include barefoot and church weddings and receptions, solo concerts, choir accompaniments, and flute choir. She has tutored flute students in private studio since 1985 and has taught summer flute camps and master classes to middle school students. Her most memorable performances however were during a performance based pilgrimage with a choir to Rome via Notre Dame, St. Stephan’s, and St. Peter’s at The Vatican in Rome. Her belief? “Music moves us all, and the power of its positive message can change the course of a life, especially through music education and performance.”
